[. . . ] The Monitor window opens as well. 3 In the Project window, select the Kiss timeline. Note: Make sure you select the timeline rather than the AVI file. 4 Choose Window > Properties to open the Properties palette, if it isn't already open. 5 In the Properties palette, choose Door > Chapter 1 from the End Action pop-up menu. 7 In the Properties palette, choose Cut > Chapter 1 from the End Action pop-up menu. Peachpit Press/Scott Design 140 LESSON 6 Overriding Default Actions By default, when the Door timeline ends, the Cut timeline will play. Then, in the Properties palette, choose Outtakes_main > Default from the End Action pop-up menu. By default, when the Cut timeline ends, the Outtakes_main menu appears with the Play All Outtakes button highlighted. Setting links for the main menu Adobe Encore DVD recognizes buttons in the Photoshop files you imported as layers, but the buttons aren't linked to anything yet. 2 With the selection tool, right-click the Play All Outtakes button in the Menu Editor window, and then choose Link To. The end actions you set in the previous section ensure that after the Kiss timeline plays, the Door timeline will play, and when it finishes, the Cut timeline will automatically play. Peachpit Press/Scott Design ADOBE ENCORE DVD 141 Classroom in a Book Notice that the Target field in the Specify Link dialog box reads Kiss > Chapter 1. Because the Kiss timeline has only one chapter point, selecting the timeline automatically selects the first chapter. If a timeline includes multiple chapters, click the arrow to the left of the timeline's name to display them. You may then select a specific chapter. 4 With the selection tool, right-click the Individual Outtakes button in the Menu Editor window, and choose Link To. 5 In the Specify Link dialog box, click the arrow to the left of Outtakes_Indiv. Select The Kiss, and click OK. Peachpit Press/Scott Design 142 LESSON 6 Overriding Default Actions Just as you can display a timeline's chapters in the Specify Link dialog box, you can display a menu's buttons. You have set the link for the Individual Outtakes button so that when it is activated, the Outtakes_Indiv menu will appear, with the The Kiss button highlighted. 6 Save the project. Previewing the links You can preview an unfinished project. Though you haven't set all the links and behaviors for this project yet, you'll preview the links from the Outtakes_main menu before moving on to link the buttons in the next menu. Note: The Preview feature works only if a menu or timeline has been set as First Play. Then the Outtakes_main menu should reappear, with the Play All Outtakes button selected. You haven't linked its buttons yet, so clicking them has no effect. 4 Close the Project Preview window. Peachpit Press/Scott Design ADOBE ENCORE DVD 143 Classroom in a Book Using the pick whip So far, you have used two different methods to create links from buttons to menus and timelines: choosing a link destination from the Specify Link dialog box, or from the popup menu in the Properties palette. Adobe Encore DVD also offers a more visual way to create links: the pick whip. If you've used the pick whip in Adobe GoLive or Adobe After Effects, the pick whip in Adobe Encore DVD will seem familiar. You'll start by linking the Back button to the Outtakes_main menu.
