[. . . ] User's Guide Laser MFP For safe and correct use of this machine, please be sure to read the Safety Information in this manual before you use it. About the User's Guide This Laser MFP User's Guide provides information you need for setting up your machine and installing the supplied software. It also provides all of the detailed instructions for using your machine as a printer, a scanner, a copier, and a facsimile, and information for maintaining and troubleshooting the machine. The User's Guide shows you how to use a USB flash drive with your machine for scanning and saving documents, and printing documents stored on the USB flash drive. This guide also provides the basic description of the multi-function application, SmarThru. [. . . ] To create your own default settings: 1 Press Menu on the control panel until "Copy Setup" appears on the top line of the display. The first menu item, "Default-Change, " appears on the bottom line. 2 Press Enter to access the menu item. The first setup option, "Darkness, " appears on the bottom line. 3 Press the scroll button ( or ) to scroll through the setup options. 4 When the option you want to set appears, press Enter to access the option. 5 Change the setting using the scroll button ( or ). You can enter the value using the number keypad. 6 Press Enter to save the selection. 8 To return to Standby mode, press Clear/Stop. NOTE: While you are setting copy options, pressing Clear/Stop cancels the changed settings and restores their default status. 5. 14 COPYING Setting the Time Out Option You can set the time the machine waits before it restores the default copy settings, if you do not start copying after changing them on the control panel. 1 Press Menu on the control panel until "Copy Setup" appears on the top line of the display. 2 Press the scroll button ( or ) to display "Timeout" on the bottom line. 3 Press Enter to access the menu item. 4 Press the scroll button ( or ) until the status you want appears on the display. Selecting "Off" means that the machine does not restore the default settings until you press Start to begin copying, or Clear/Stop to cancel. 5 5 Press Enter to make your selection. 6 To return to Standby mode, press Clear/Stop. COPYING 5. 15 MEMO 5. 16 COPYING 6 SCANNING Scanning with your machine lets you turn pictures and text into digital files on your computer. Then you can fax or e-mail the files, display them on your web site or use them to create projects that you can print using the SmarThru software, TWAIN driver or the WIA driver or the Network Scan program to scan. These are: · From the control panel on your machine to an application: Use the Scan-to button on the control panel to initiate scanning. Assign the TWAIN-compliant software, such as Adobe Photo Deluxe or Adobe Photoshop, to the machine by selecting it from the list of available applications via the Scan-to button. Before assigning the software program, you must configure the scan list using the Printer Settings Utility. · From the SmarThru software: Launch the SmarThru and open Scan To to begin scanning. · From the Windows Images Acquisition (WIA) driver: Your machine also supports the WIA driver for scanning images. · From a USB flash drive: When you insert a USB flash drive into the USB port in the front of your machine, you can scan and save documents in the USB flash drive by pressing Scan-to. · From the Network Scan Program: Your machine use the Network Scan program for scanning images. NOTES: · To scan with your machine, you must install the MFP driver. · Scanning is done through the same LPT or USB port currently assigned for your printer port. 6. 2 SCANNING Scanning From the Control Panel to an Application 1 Make sure that your machine and computer are turned on and properly connected to each other. 2 Load the document(s) face up into the ADF. OR Place a single document face down on the document glass. For details about loading a document, see page 7. 6. 3 Press Scan-to. The first available menu item, "Application, " appears on the bottom line. 4 Press Enter and press the scroll button ( or ) to select an application to which you want to send the scanned image. 5 Press Enter. For details, please refer to the User's Guide of the application. 6 SCANNING 6. 3 Scanning Using the SmarThru SmarThru is the accompanying software for your machine. Follow these steps to start scanning using the SmarThru: 1 Make sure that your machine and computer are turned on and properly connected to each other. 2 Load the document(s) face up into the ADF. OR Place a single document face down on the document glass. [. . . ] Successful printing on envelopes depends upon the quality of the envelopes. When selecting envelopes, consider the following components: · Weight: The weight of the envelope paper should not exceed 90g/m2 (24lb) or jamming may occur. · Construction: Prior to printing, envelopes should lie flat with less than 6mm (0. 25in. ) curl, and should not contain air. · Condition: Envelopes should not be wrinkled, nicked or otherwise damaged.
