For safe and correct use, be sure to read the Important Information in this manual before using the machine. Using this guide Symbols used in this guide We use the following icons throughout this User's Guide: Warnings tell you what to do to prevent possible personal injury. Cautions specify procedures you must follow or avoid to prevent possible damage to the printer or other objects. Improper Setup icons alert you to devices and operations that are not compatible with the printer. [. . . ] Plug the printer back in, and then turn on the power switch. 68 Routine Maintenance Cleaning the corona wire If you have print quality problems, clean the corona wire as follows: 5 a Open the front cover. 5 b Take out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly. CAUTION We recommend that you put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly on a piece of disposable paper or cloth in case you accidentally spill or scatter toner. To prevent damage to the printer from static electricity, DO NOT touch the electrodes shown in the illustration. 69 Routine Maintenance c Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the blue tab from right to left and left to right several times. 1 CAUTION 5 Be sure to return the tab to the home position (a) (1). If you do not, printed pages may have a vertical stripe. d Put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back in the printer. Close the front cover. 70 6 Troubleshooting 6 You can correct most problems by yourself. Identifying your problem First, check the following: The AC power cord is connected properly and the printer is turned on. The interface cable is securely connected to the printer and the computer. Printer does not print: If you did not solve your problem with the above checks, identify your problem and then go to the page suggested below. Paper handling (See Paper handling on page 75 and Paper jams and how to clear them on page 77. ) Pages are printed, but there are problems with: Print quality (See Improving the print quality on page 83. ) Printout is incorrect (See Solving print problems on page 89. ) 6 6 6 6 6 71 Troubleshooting Error messages in the Status Monitor The Status Monitor will report problems with the printer. If you want to turn the status monitor on, follow these steps: Click the Start button, All Programs 1, your printer (e. g Ricoh SP 1210N), and then Status Monitor. 1 6 Programs for Windows® 2000 users Error message Cover is Open Memory Full Action Close the front cover of the printer. Press the Go button to print the remaining data in the printer memory. Cancel the print job if you want to delete the remaining data in the printer memory. Sometimes it is helpful to remove the paper, turn the stack over and put it back in the paper tray. Make sure you use paper that meets Ricoh's recommended paper specifications.
