[. . . ] 180 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS COPY REFERENCE Read this manual carefully before you use this product and keep it handy for future reference. For safety, please follow the instructions in this manual. Introduction This manual contains detailed instructions on the operation and maintenance of this machine. To get maximum versatility from this machine all operators should carefully read and follow the instructions in this manual. It contains important information related to USER SAFETY and PREVENTING EQUIPMENT PROBLEMS. Notes: Some illustrations may be slightly different from your machine. Note Ì To avoid a multi-sheet feed, shuffle the originals before setting them in the document feeder. 2 B Adjust the guide to the original size. If your hand covers the internal sensor, it will not operate correctly and the original could be damaged. Setting Originals When Auto Paper Select Cannot Recognize the Size When you wish to use Auto Reduce/ Enlarge when setting non-standard size documents in the ADF, specify the size of your original using the following procedure. Important Ì Be sure to press the {Clear Modes} key after copying non-standard size originals to clear any settings. Not taking this precaution could result in damage to originals set in the ADF. Limitation Ì You cannot specify the original size when using Auto Paper Select. 2 Ì When setting pages of documents 1 page at a time in the ADF using Auto Paper Select and Auto Reduce/Enlarge, these features adapt to the size of the scanned original. Basic Functions Basic Functions The following basic functions are explained in this section. Adjusting Copy Image Density You can adjust the copy image density to match your originals. There are three types in this function: y Adjusting Copy Image Density Auto and Manual Image Density y Selecting Original Type Setting Text, Text·Photo, Photo y Selecting Copy Paper Auto Paper Select and Manual Paper Select y Auto Reduce/Enlarge The machine can choose an appropriate reproduction ratio based on the paper and original sizes you select. Note Ì You can select functions to be activated when Auto Reset is turned on, when Energy Saver is turned off, or after the machine is powered on. Initial Mode set" 2 y Auto Image Density The machine automatically adjusts the image density. y Manual Image Density If you require darker or lighter copies, adjust the image density yourself. y Combined Auto and Manual Image Density Use when copying originals with a dirty background (such as newspapers). You can adjust the foreground density while leaving the background unchanged. A Select one of Image Density modes. Auto image density A Make sure that the Auto Image Density indicator is lit. Note Ì If not, press the {Auto Image Density} key. 31 Copying Manual image density A Press the {Auto Image Density} } key to cancel it.
