Shooting a White Subject If you shoot a subject that is mainly white, the shot will be under-exposed overall, with people appearing dark and white objects appearing grey. Shooting a Black Subject If you shoot a subject that is mainly black, the shot will be overexposed overall, with people appearing white and black objects appearing grey. Set the exposure compensation level to a negative (-) value to adjust the exposure. The auto mode automatically adjusts the white balance based on the white areas, ensuring that white is reproduced as white regardless of the light source. Consequently, a subject that lacks white areas or that is dominated by dark tones may not achieve an appropriate white balance. Change the white balance mode to shoot such subjects. Display No display Mode name Auto Daylight Description The camera automatically adjusts the white balance. Use this mode outdoors when the white balance is difficult to achieve. Use this mode in cloudy weather or in the shade when the white balance is difficult to achieve. Macro Mode Macro mode allows you to take close-up pictures of a subject. Use macro mode when the distance to the subject is less than about 40cm in Tele mode and 14cm in Wide mode.
